Acne Basics

Dealing with acne is not any fun at all. Teenagers have enough problems with self-image as it is, and when a bad case of acne is added, a lot of other much more serious problems can develop: depression, self isolation, etc. It’s easier and much better for the teenager if the acne is treated before other problems have time to materialize. Take the teen to see a dermatologist ASAP! Parents can help teens to help themselves, though.

There are two important things that teenagers can do to help themselves - with your guidance.

1. The first is adequate and correct facial cleansing. So many times teens think that scrubbing their faces really hard will help to get rid of the acne. That is so far from the truth. The fact is that hard scrubbing can actually contribute to the problem. Hard scrubbing can stimulate the sebaceous glands that then produce more sebum, which then causes MORE zits to form.

To cleanse the face correctly, ditch the wash rag. A mild soap (preferably one for acne) is worked into lather in the hands and applied to the face. A gentle circular motion is used to clean the face. The face is then rinsed several times with water. The next step is to pat (NOT RUB) the skin dry. A clean towel should be used for ever facial cleansing. A moisturizer and/or acne medication is then applied. Facial cleansing needs to be done twice a day - at least!

2. The second thing that a teenager can do to help fight acne is to eat a diet that is conducive to healthy skin. The usual American teenager’s diet does not qualify. Here is a place where the teen is going to require the help of a parent.

A diet that will help to produce healthy, acne-free skin is one that is loaded with fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and whole grains. Adding a daily multivitamin can also help.

Acid Reflux Disease Could Lead To Severe Complications If Left Unattended

There are times that after a splurge on a large pizzas and a couple of beer mugs, with you get this burning sensation in your chest and throat. You got heartburn, a sign of acid reflux disease. Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is commonly referred to as acid reflux or heartburn (which is actually its symptom). This affliction attacks almost everyone regardless of age and gender. In fact, as you are reading this now, millions of Americans are suffering heartburn or several other symptoms of acid reflux disease.

GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs to millions of Americans as a chronic condition that some even suffer this attack at an average of three times a week, while some have it almost daily. Symptoms of acid reflux disease could differ from one sufferer to another while others do not even know they are having it. There is this interesting article that wrote about cases where the patient was totally clueless about his condition until his dentist told him about it. What gave his dentist the idea was the way the patient’s teeth erode due to acid that were apparently refluxed or regurgitated from his stomach.

While some would say that the patient in the above case is luckier he does not have to suffer the discomfort and pain associated with heartburn, the clueless patient may be more susceptible to a later surprise of more severe complications. Remember, detection is important as the first step towards resolving a problem or ailment. Chronic acid reflux disease that goes on for more than four years could lead to severe complications.

The sensitive cells lining the esophagus could be irritated and damaged due to constant exposure to stomach acid that flows back from the stomach. Failure to detect and resolve this condition could lead to a more serious problem that could become a precursor to cancer.

There are a lot of factors and triggers that lead to the development of acid reflux disease. This includes physiological conditions like hiatal hernia, inability of the stomach to empty itself, etc. One of the primary triggers of a heartburn episode is the foods ingested. For several reasons, some people are just more sensitive to acidic foods that after eating them, heartburn occurs. Alcoholic and carbonated beverages, spicy foods and foods with high fat content are also major triggers of heartburn.

There are a lot of talks about stress contributing to the development of acid reflux disease by it has not been really directly linked to it in purely medical terms. However, stress is usually ascribed to as a secondary factor in the development of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The best way to fully ascertain your triggers is to try to maintain a dairy diary of what you ate, what you did, etc. and along the same row, you can indicate if you had an episode of heartburn. Better yet, discuss this plan with your doctor who would be more than glad to help you better understand your acid reflux disease.

Building Big Muscles With Cable Workouts

When it comes to building muscles, it is vital that one changes his routine from time for time. I have changed my own routine many times over the years in order to continue making the most progress possible. If you do not change your routine and add variety to your workouts you will reach a plateau and quit making progress. As stated in other articles of mine, your muscles need to be “shocked” or “surprised” into making new growth because they will adapt to the “same old thing” and feel no need to adjust due to no new demands being placed on them. Thus, they will not continue to grow and become stronger.

One of the methods you can adopt to get past a plateau is to perform cable workouts for the upper body. Though I do not recommend cable workouts year-round, I do recommend that you switch to cable workouts from time to time. However, I suggest that you use “free weights” for the majority of the year.

One of the benefits of cable exercises is that the tension will remain on the muscles being worked throughout the range of motion. Because you are handling the weight with pulley cables, there is no rest permitted due to the continual tension provided by the cables attached to the machine or device. For example, cable flyes keep the tension on your chest muscles throughout the movement unless you totally release the cable. Be sure though that you are not standing, sitting, or lying too close to the machine, which would allow rest to your muscles. Due to the pulley action of cable exercises, there is constant negative and positive resistance placed on the muscles. Positive resistance refers to the pushing or pulling part of an exercise while negative resistance refers to the lowering or returning to the start position of an exercise.

Now I would like to give you some effective cable exercises that will guarantee you to build some serious muscle without the use of free weights. The following are some of the best cable exercises you can do to build size and strength to your muscles.

Cable Flyes - Chest

There are several variations of these that can be done on a double pulley machine.

Cable Bench Presses - Chest

These can be done lying on a bench between two pulley machines.

Cable Presses - Shoulders

Cable Lateral Raises - Shoulders

Tricep Press Downs on a pulley machine - Triceps

Tricep extensions on a pulley machine - Triceps

Cable Curls - Biceps

Cable Concentration Curls - Biceps

These can be done sitting on a bench or bending over and resting your upper arm on your inner thigh.

Bent over Rows with a pulley machine - Back

These are best done with one arm at a time.

Upright Rows with a pulley machine - Upper back

Rope Crunches - Abdominals

These are done while kneeling, facing a pulley machine with your hands alongside your head and bending forward then up again, keeping the rope ends alongside your head throughout the movement.

Finally, in order to insure that you make the fastest, most complete results to build your muscles, I highly recommend that you download an easy to-understand e-book titled, What In The World Are You Eating? You must fuel your muscles for the fastest progress possible so that you’re not wasting your time in the gym.
